Uganda: Yoweri Museveni Declared Winner Of Uganda's Presidential Race.
Ugandas Veteran leader Yoweri Museveni was on Saturday February 2016 declared winner of the just concluded presidential elections in Uganda by Uganda's election commission. He has been in power since his rebel group seized power in 1986. In 2005, the constitution underwent changes to allow him to extend his term.
Museveni won with 60.7% of the votes while his closest competitor, opposition leader Kizza Besigye had 35.3%, the commission said. The country had a voter turnout of 63%, according to the panel.
Kizza Besigye was put under "preventative arrest" at his home in Kampala since Friday, along with six officials from his party.
