Somali Military Court Executes Two Men Found Guilty of Killing Female Journalist Hinda Haji Mohamed in December 2015
SOMALI: A military court in Somalia has executed two members of the Al-Shabaab terror group by firing squad.
The two, Abdirisak Mohamed Barow and Hassan Nur Ali, who admitted being al-Shabaab members during their trial, were charged for the murder of a journalist killed by a car bomb in 2015 and were shot in Mogadishu.
Deputy judge of the supreme military court, Abdulahi Hussein Mohamed, confirmed the execution to journalists. “Both of them were found guilty of murdering journalist Hindiyo Haji Mohamed whose car was blown with explosive device,” Hussein said.
Mohamed who worked for the Somali national television, SNTV was killed in December 3, 2015 when her car blew up as she returned home from a university class in Mogadishu. Hindiyo Mohamed’s husband had earlier been killed by al-Shabaab.
Somalia’s military court had rejected an appeal from the two men and instead increased their sentence from life to death sentence instead.
