Forget KRA hacker, Here's the man arrested after hacking Safaricom MPESA

KENYA: Another group of hackers have been arrested attempting to hack into giant communication company Safaricom MPESA.

Ronnie Nsale was among other suspects who were presented to court on Thursday April 6 over the incident and police given 15 days to conclude investigations.

According to Safaricom, one customer lost KSh 266,000 through an unauthorised SIM Swap, but that the company refunded the money.

Safaricom has foiled an elaborate cyber-crime fraud attempt to hack into its company systems.Safaricom’s Risk Management unit detected the intrusion and immediately escalated the incident to the security agencies. Safaricom maintains a state-of- the-art information security system which easily triggers an alarm if a breach is detected. This matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.. I wish assure our customers that all their data is safe and we have no evidence of any money being removed from the system,” said Safaricopm CEO Bob Collymore in a statement.
