Drama Unfolds at Malawian Gospel Artist Grace Chinga’s funeral.

Drama at Grace Chinga’s funeral.
MALAWI: As thousands of Malawians paid their last respects to songbird Grace Chinga yesterday, others found themselves at the centre of dramatic scenes.

One such scene happened on the way to HHI cemetery; a couple who were among the mourners but were travelling in their car started fighting.

The quarrel attracted the attention of the funeral-goers who surrounded the car to get a glimpse of the two.
The man could be heard complaining that the woman didn’t want the two to go to the cemetery.

Mourners also let their feelings known by jeering at speakers while they were making their speeches at Robin’s Park.

When one speaker urged Malawians to respect local music and avoid piracy which he said kills talent, mourners booed him while some shouted that there was no need for such speeches at the ceremony.

Stealing was also part of the ceremony; phones and tablets were taken, leaving their owners crying.
There were also reports of missing children as people lost kids in the crowd which was escorting the gospel diva to her resting place.

At last, the musician was laid to rest and the grave was filled with wreaths.
But when the ceremony ended and officials had left the place, ordinary people found a chance to take pictures of and selfies at the grave.
