KENYA: Kenyatta University Prof. Olive Mwihaki Mugenda made the announcement that he was going to retire on March 18th 2016, this was during a ground-breaking ceremony for the International Language and Culture Center at the Kenyatta University main campus.

There has however been a fresh row between her and the University Academic Staff Union over the send off gift that the university’s Senate Council is intending to award her for her esteemed 10 years of service. When she graduated with her first degree, she joined the university as a tutorial member in 1981 and rose through the ranks to become the deputy vice chancellor for Finance and Planning and in 2006.

Prof. Olive Mwihaki Mugenda was the first woman in the African great lakes area to lead a public university in 2006 when she was appointed the Vice Chancellor by former President Mwai Kibaki.

Prof. Mugenda had been reinstated as KU VC in January pending the determination of a case on her terminal leave.
