This week the Standard Media Group editor was charged with handling stolen property after being found with Biira’s Mercedes E-220 in Kisumu.

In his submissions before the court, Ochieng claimed that he and the Ugandan-born TV anchor were lovers, adding that they had plotted to steal the car together with the aim of reselling it after they reported it stolen.

On her part, Ms Biira told the court that she discovered her vehicle was stolen when she noticed that her car keys were missing from her desk.

She reported the matter to the company’s security, and it was found that the car had left the premises at 7:30pm, with occupants remaining unknown.

Investigations commenced immediately, leading to the recovery of the motor vehicle in Kisumu – now bearing a new registration number, KCH 117L.

Ochieng was arrested on 31st December 2016 alongside two guards who were on duty on that night, and were remanded at Industrial Area police station, Makadara Division as investigations into the matter continued.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani released Mr Ochieng on a bond of Ksh1 million or a cash bail of Ksh300, 000.
