Global Warming Unravelling in Africa.
Can Africa have a role to play in global warming solutions? The answer is yes, though being one of the lowest global warming emissions on the planet, Africa can do it by planning its land use effectively and avoiding forest degradation. Limiting of coal fired power plant is of significant importance too.
Global warming is slowly making Christmas tree an endangered species, surprisingly enough no one is taking about it in the West. Some of us my call global warming a hoax but believe me you, data and real facts from the climate scientists show that our planet is actually warming. The month of July this year has been recorded as the warmest month on record for the earth dating back to Jan 1880.
This year alone we have witnessed sea levels rising and oceans becoming much more warmer, frankly speaking its never cold as it used to be at the West, South or East coast of Africa as it used to be in the 90s. Another effect this year is the longer intense droughts threatening our crops, wildlife and fresh water being supplied.
From the marine turtles off the coast of Africa to polar bears, their life is at risk from the changing climate. Rising seas threaten coastal marshes worldwide such as Mombasa which is said to become non-existent in a few years to come.
Some of the effects likely to affect human beings include, risk of death, injury or ill health, risk of loss of rural livelihoods, risk of loss of terrestrial and inland water ecosystems & biodiversity.
To mitigate this, Africa should initiate governance systems that adapt disaster risk management, adjustment in technologies and infrastructure ecosystem based approach, basic public health measures and livelihood.
Remember to drop in you opinion on the rising global warming.
