KENYA: Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has hit the headlines once more but for once it’s not as a result of his usual controversies but his wife who chugged a whole bottle of champagne in one go.

That seems to have made Saumu Mbuvi, a very proud daughter. She was so proud that she took to social media to shower praises on her mother.

The bottle of Moët & Chandon, her drink of choice that night, is 750 ML and has an alcohol content of 12 %. For rookie drinkers, swallowing the whole bottle bottoms up is enough to knock you out.

And it doesn’t come cheap either as bottle goes for about KSh 7,000, a figure many Nairobi dwellers would call rent. Or a month’s worth of supplies for a majority of middle-income earners.

To cut the long story short, Sonko’s wife downed someone’s rent in Githurai without batting an eyelid, literally. And not getting drunk while at it. That happened as she celebrated her birthday with her family including the Senator who was also present.

The birthday bash must have been a costly one as a close scrutiny at the photo reveals a table full of pricey Johnie Walker gold reserve bottles, all bought for her occasion.

Mike Sonko caused quite a stir on his birthday when he was photographed posing with bottles of whisky at his father’s grave.

Sonko who is known for his philanthropic ways, chose a rather odd way to celebrate the day he was born. Shoeless, Sonko was holding a halfway done bottle of whisky as he sat next to the sarcophagus of his late father in Mua hills.
