Woman whose Hands were Chopped off By Husband Gets Local Government Support
KENYA: The government of Machakos has promised financial support to a woman whose hands were chopped off by her husband, to a tune of Sh30,000 monthly, for a year.
Governor Alfred Mutua’s wife – Lilian Ng’ang’a – shared the news as she visited Jackline Mwende at her home in Kathama village, Machakos.On top of that, Mwende will also be provided with services of a housekeeper who will be paid by Machakos county for a year.
Ng’ang’a added that Mwende will also receive medical support from the county government and prosthetics she urgently requires.
Lilian Nga’ng’a contributed Sh100,000 for Mwende’s upkeep saying the county government will offer support for more than a year depending on what her condition will be.
“There will be an ambulance at her disposal to take her to the clinic or hospital for check-ups for one year,” she noted.
But the support doesn’t end there as Mwende will also get counseling which is necessary following the traumatic incident. She will also receive artificial limbs from LG Electronics according to marketing general manager Moses Marji.
Marji was also present at Mwende’s home together with activist Zawadi Nyong’o among other women representatives.
The electronics giant will also cater for her transport to and from the hospital and other expenses at the health facilityl.
Also in tow was entrepreneur Esther Passaris, Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Machakos chair Fransisca Mutinda and Fida chairperson Josephine Mong’are.
Women Representatives present include Susan Musyoka (Machakos), Mary Seneta (Kajiado), Joyce Lay (Taita Taveta), Florence Kajuju (Meru) and Rose Museo (Makueni).
Stephen Ngila, who is the suspect was apprehended on Monday, August 1, not long after cutting off Mwende’s hands for allegedly failing to conceive a child in a period of seven years.
It was also reported that Mwende had separated with Ngila for three months but later went back to her husband after being persuaded by her pastor.
