KENYA: Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has been sued by Safaricom for defamation over articles he published on his blog accusing the telecommunications giant of swindling Kenyans.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and his predecessor Michael Joseph served Cyprian with the suit on Tuesday through their lawyers Muriu, Mungai & Co Advocates.

"Take notice that the application will be heard on June 28, 2017. If you do not attend, the application will be heard your absence withstanding." a notice in the newspapers read.

Safaricom claims the articles published by Nyakundi were ‘offensive’ , inciting, unsubstantial, baseless and meant to portray Safaricom as fraudulent.

Safaricom had asked to serve the controversial blogger through newspapers saying tracing the blogger was difficult.

Safaricom says in the summons that Cyprian Nyakundi accused it of firing their staff for falling ill. The company further says he published articles concerning matters being addressed in court.

Milimani law courts issued a temporary injunction stopping Cyprian Nyakundi from publishing articles about Safaricom.
