Earlier on Ali Saqr al-Qasem had reported his mother to the Islamic State superiors who then sentenced her to death, but it is however not in the light why it had to be Ali Saqr al-Qasem to carry out the execution. She was accused of apostasy which is a crime that means leaving one's religion.
The news comes as the Islamic State chief spokesman in neighbouring Iraq, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, was reportedly left with severe injuries following an airstrike.
Al-Adnani, who has been singled out as a potential successor should anything happen to Isis’ leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, required initial emergency treatment in the jihadi-held city of Hit after losing large amounts of blood, Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said.
He has since been moved to Isis’ Iraq-stronghold of Mosul, however his condition remains unknown.
The Islamic State has executed more than 2,000 Syrian civilians in a span of 18 months since it declared its leadership over the territory it controls in Iraq and Syria. They included people killed on the grounds of homosexuality and practicing magic.
