Otieno further claimed at a Kibera court that Chepchumba's mother knew of the assault but requested her to keep it within the family.

He said the 26-year-old woman made the revelations to him on several occasions. He gave the narration through an assistant as he lost his hearing but can speak.

Luois Otieno said Chepchumba also accused Hosea Kili of beating her and said he was not her biological father.

It was in record that Chepchumba once ran to Otieno's house and locked herself inside claiming her father wanted to kill her.

The former Tv presenter said that Chepchumba informed him that Kili had hired a man identified as Pius Chelimo to monitor him.

Otieno said Chepchumba called him several times a day and sent him messages detailing her troubles.

He said he deleted the messages because they were “traumatising” but noted that the woman's friends - housemate Stephen Agutu and Susan Gachukia - knew of her misery.

Otieno said his friend once spoke of death saying she was tired of her parents' hostility. He said they visited former Athletics Kenya chairman Isaiah Kiplagat and sought his intervention.

The former new anchor dismissed claims that Chepchumba stole money from Kili to finance his expensive lifestyle, saying she only ran errands for him. He said he bought most of his belongings, such as cars, before he met her.

Kili had told an inquest that Chepchumba borrowed money from him to fund Otieno's lifestyle.

The man also said his daughter borrowed money to pay for Otieno's medical expenses in Nairobi and South Africa. He said she incurred a Sh3 million debt, money allegedly spent on Otieno.

But Otieno said he paid the hospital bills for pancreatic treatment through medical insurance and with earnings from a job at the K24 TV station and consultancies.

He said he acquired a Range Rover by trading in his Land Cruiser, adding: "I could afford it." He also said he owned two Mercedes Benz cars and a BMW before meeting Chepchumba.

Otieno further noted that he pays fees for his children who attend Makini School.

But the prosecution produced documents showing the woman paid some money out to Otieno. They indicated sums of Sh50,000 and Sh1 million.

Chepchumba was found dead in her apartment atKilimani's Santonia Court in February 2012. A postmortem showed she was strangled.

The former TV presenter said he met the woman the previous year when he moved into the building.

Otieno said Chepchumba approached him first as she the keys.

He said she opened up to him as they became close but denied having sexual relations with her.

Chepchumba's parents did not approve of the friendship, he said, but added that they never confronted him.

Otieno said he did not get a chance to view Chepchumba's body as he was in Magadi when she was found dead.

He said she was married with two children.
