Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Set to defect to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD)

KENYA: Reports say the senator could return back to opposition where he originally started his political career.

Mike Sonko is said to be planning to join the CORD coalition as long as Wiper Kenya leader Kalonzo Musyoka is given the presidential ticket for 2017.

Sonko had previously been a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) before falling out with the party officials.

Kalonzo is battling his fellow CORD principals Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and ODM chief Raila Odinga for nomination as presidential candidate.

The Nairobi senator has had a turbulent relationship with a section of Mount Kenya politicians who have been opposition his candidacy for the Nairobi gubernatorial election in 2017.

Sonko started his political career with ODM before joining Martha Karua’s Narc Kenya after he fell out with party officials.

The controversial politician then joined TNA and then Jubilee coalition and won the 2007 senate seat as its candidate.
