Department of Correctional Services Officer is Celebrated for Giving Inmates a Second Chance. (PHOTOS)

On Friday 19 February 2016 the University of Free State Post Graduate Research Council invited the Department of Correctional Services to its Opening and Welcoming event on campus. The offender learners of Tswelopele Correctional Centre, who finished matric last year were invited to attend the event.

Gustav Wilson is Regional Head of Corrections at the Department of Correctional Services in the Free State-Northern Cape. He has since been hailed an hero for giving young inmates in Free State South Africa a second chance in their lifes by helping the inmates achieve their Matric.

On an open letter to Wilson on his Facebook page, Political activist and businessman Moeketsi Mosola wrote;

 "Dear Mr. Gustav Wilson, You are my hero from Bloemfontein. I have followed your posts and pictires which i find inspirational, uplifting and full of hope. The manner in which you have manged to use your profession as a Correctional Officer of the Law deserved recognition and respect.
in this case, your partnership with University of Free State for inmates to write and finish their Matric is mind boggling. You have indeed given these young men a real second chance in life.
Your love of music is evident. Your sincerity is felt. Your undying love to stand for those who clearly cannot stand for themselves deserve to be noticed.
You are a true example of what a South African should look like. Your solid support from your wife and family is a good sign of a family United.
I am glad our paths crossed. Next time i come home to Bloemfontein i would like to meet you, My Hero."

Gustav later on wrote this on his facebook account; Thank you Kamo (Chairperson) and Katleho Mckay Nyaile (Vice Chairperson) of the University of Free State Post Graduate Research Council for hosting us on Friday and for partnering with the Department of Correctional Services in the Free State/Northern Cape Region.
