Gun Used to Shoot Businessman Jacob Juma now in Police Posession
KENYA: After an examination of the bullets that were found in the slain businessman’s car, one was found to match a weapon recovered from a recent criminal bust in Nairobi.
A statement released to the media say that the AK 47 bullet shell casings were found to have been from a weapon they have in their possession.
In the same breath, the police have also said 28 people have recorded statements so far a number that has risen from the original 20 who were people of interest in the investigations.
Among those that have recorded statements with the police include his widow, Miriam Wairimu, several girlfriends, the owner of the breakdown services vehicle that towed the deceased’s car from the crime scene to Karen police station.
A strong critic of the government, Jacob Juma was murdered on Thursday, May 5, 2016 as he drove on Ngong road on the way back to his Karen home from his Westlands penthouse.
The mysterious woman passenger who was captured by CCTV riding in Juma’s car moments before the killing, has been identified as Cheryl Kitonga. This was revealed on the evening of Monday, May 23, after KTN aired its investigative series Jicho Pevu / The Lead.
The killing of Jacob Juma is controversial in that he was a critic of the Jubilee regime and had made it his business to expose the ills of the government especially recent corruption scandals through his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
The leadership of Cord fronted by Raila Odinga insist that Jacob Juma was assassinated because he was a harsh critic of the government and corruption inside it and is also said he was about to release damning details on the KSh 250 billion Eurobond Scandal.
It was first thought he was killed at the crime scene where his bullet riddled body was found but Police now claim he might have been killed elsewhere and his murder scene staged.
Police have however denied links to the murder after their mishandling of his body and evidence of the crime came to light in the media.
