Members of the Nyangi Ndariri Council of elders From Embu Turned away at DP Ruto’s Karen Residence

KENYA: A planned visit to Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen residence by members of the Nyangi Ndariri Council of elders from Embu backfired when they were turned away at the gate.

The members arrived at Ruto’s home last Friday morning with high hopes of meeting him only to be told that Ruto was not aware of their visit.

The disappointed senior citizens claimed that they had written an appointment letter to the Deputy President through Embu County Commissioner Esther Maina, and were informed that they were scheduled to meet the DP on that day.

In their hundreds, they boarded more than 23 matatus and buses and travelled for over 100 kilometres to Nairobi’s Karen estate.

Commissioner Maina, who was the intermediary between the villagers and the Deputy President, reportedly went missing on the material day.

Upon arrival in Karen, the elders Embu were informed that the letter never reached the Deputy President and therefore could not meet him.

They were forced to return home, with some threatening to take action against the County official whom they claimed duped them.

It is still not known what the Nyangi Ndariri Council of elders wanted to discuss with DP William Ruto.
