Italian diplomat offers 7 Million to a Kenyan University Dropout to end affair with His Wife

KENYA: Mario Margiotta offered Olang Sh7 million to leave his wife alone, but turned it down because he loved her.

Olang, who allegedly dropped out of college, now accuses the diplomat’s wife of misusing him sexually, before dumping him without delivering on the lavish, easy life she had reportedly promised.

Mario Margiotta, an international agricultural economist in Kenya, but who has since relocated to Egypt, filed divorce papers at the High Court Family Division in Nairobi and names the university student, Billy Graham Olang, as the reason for their divorce.

Mario claims Olang had a three-year affair with his wife, Nathalie Amiot, who allegedly convinced the student of applied statistics to quit university. In exchange, she is said to have promised him a lavish life, including capital for a business of his choice to be funded by proceeds from the sale of a Sh26 million flat in France.

Mario and Nathalie dated and married in France. They have one child, an 18-year-old son. Since 2011, they have been residents of Kenya, where their son attends high school.

Olang filed an affidavit at the Family Division of the High Court on July 2, 2016, seeking to be enjoined in the divorce case.

In his affidavit Olang swears that: “Having learned of the divorce case filed on behalf of Mario Margiotta, in which he mentions me in writing by my full official name, and accuses Nathalie Amiot of a romantic relationship with me as a ground for divorce because of infidelity, I wish to exercise my constitutional right to be heard, explain myself and participate as a party in the legal proceeding in court.”

Olang claims he met Nathalie in Mombasa in 2011. “I had visited an aunt, and met her at a social event. She is the one who approached me and we started an affair,” states Olang, adding that Nathalie, who had already separated from her husband, sent him money to travel and be with her in Mombasa every weekend.

“After a year of travelling every weekend to Mombasa, I was so tired and could not manage it anymore, so Nathalie travelled to Maseno, and I took her to my mother’s house where she lived for three months.”

Nathalie relocated to Mombasa after she sold the apartment in France. But travelling from Maseno to Mombasa apparently affected his studies.

Olang, who was admitted to university in the 2008/2009 academic year, began reporting unflattering scores as his provisional transcripts show: ‘E’ in ‘Further Probability and Distribution Theory’, another ‘E’ in ‘Biometric Models’ a ‘D’ in ‘Applied Econometrics’ with the recommendation ‘Re-sit failed courses.’

Olang had scored an ‘A-’ in his KCSE exams in 2005, but life did not turn out as anticipated.

“She sold the house for Sh26 million and promised to take care of me if I quit college to live with her in Mombasa permanently. Her husband sent his lawyer who offered me Sh7 million if I ended the affair with Nathalie. I refused to take the money because I loved her, I still love her,” claims Olang.

In divorce case number 88 of 2014, Mario claims Nathalie has been adulterous and cruel to him. “On many occasions, the respondent has shown infidelity and has been involved in a romantic relationship with Billy Graham Olang. The respondent has shown complete lack of commitment to the marriage and thus exposed the petitioner to all manner of disruptions in his life. She is rude, abusive and evil,” Mario claimed.

Pending the divorce, Mario was ordered to pay a monthly maintenance of 2500 Euros (Sh282,897) to his wife, but Nathalie sued, accusing her hubby of failing to pay the amount as directed by the court. In his replying affidavit, Mario swears states that pending the divorce proceedings, Nathalie had been sending him unsavory and threatening emails.

“The respondent has jeopardized the petitioner’s professional standing by sending disparaging and undignified emails to the Italian Consulate in Cairo where he works and now resides.

One of the mails read in part: “Now listen carefully, it is the last time we accept to be spending a weekend with no money at all, having to borrow to survive, pay internet or even feed the dogs. We know you do not pay on time on purpose because it gives you great sense of power and sweet satisfaction to know that we are suffering. Try one of your dirty tricks again and Lorenzo and I will fall on you at full strength (sic) making sure to spoil your reputation (with undisputable facts duly documented) everywhere you go, everywhere you have been and everywhere you wish to go...”

Nathalie, however, in her replying affidavit, claims she wrote the emails out of frustration as her husband had refused to comply with a court order compelling him to pay monthly maintenance for five years since the divorce was initiated.

Nathalie also charged that Mario has been moving countries, claiming they have no jurisdiction to effect divorce proceedings and which he has been using as a basis for not complying with court orders.

Nathalie claims she’s jobless and life has not been easy, a claim supported by their son in court documents.

High Court Judge Margaret W Muigai on August 16, 2016 ordered Mario to comply with the court orders regarding maintenance of his wife and son since Egypt, France, Italy and Kenya are obligated to enforce the International Bill of Rights under International Law.
