Sonko promised to introduce policies that will benefit the poor residents of the county who had been oppressed by Kidero's administration.

In his first 100 days, the senator vowed to scrap licences for small scale traders like hawkers and mama mbogas. Sonko promised to reduce the land rates in the city which he claimed were too high for most residents. “In my first 100 days in office, I will abolish permits for mama mboga and hawkers and also reduce land rates,” Sonko is quoted.

The senator also promised to deal with the county askaris who have harassed business people especially the hawkers in the city.

"I will make sure all city askaris are sent for fresh training as we hire new ones who instead of harassing business people will be now responsible in identifying problems affecting the residents" said Sonko.
